What Is Google Indexing?

Before a page can appear in search results, Google has to first find it, read it, and add it to its index — essentially a giant, constantly updated library of every page it knows about. A brand-new website usually needs to be indexed before it will show up for any search at all, which is one reason a new site can take time to start appearing in results even once it's live.
